Reflecting her minimal, yet powerful work, I designed an exhibition that allows for room for the reader to encounter the work with no interruption.

The way she invites people into the honest conversation can often leave many in awe.
Typographic exhibit design, catalogue design

The exhibition logo, “Lorna Simpson,” is typeset in Founders Grotesk as the letterforms of this typeface communicate a tone of seamless elegance. The dot on the “i” is removed, or hidden to express the motif of Simpson’s work on the forgotten and unseen. ︎︎︎

Throughout the spreads, the divider spreads are treated with a light gray color as it leaves enough distinction for a transition into a new section. Images are designed with a generous amount of white space, leaving room for the viewer to pause and contemplate. ︎︎︎

The pagination shows the rhythm and pacing of how the exhibit flows. There are quiet moments as there are solemn, heavy moments. ︎︎︎

The poster design continues the visual language of quietness, yet a memorable impression of her work. The purpose is to invite viewers to join in the contemplative dialogue of desire and identity. ︎︎︎
