High-Touch, MillerKnollART DIRECTION
Ward Bennett and Joe D'Urso shaped American interior modernism through parallel careers that crossed the same houses, Geiger, Knoll, and Herman Miller, yet their dialogue has rarely been examined together.
The exhibition at the MillerKnoll New York showroom brought that conversation into the open, layering archival material alongside the physical work to surface shared methodologies, influences, and a design sensibility that resisted spectacle.
Art directing the shoot translated and honored that same logic: full overviews establishing the space, and details that drew out the relationships between pieces in form, material, and approach. Working closely with curator Luke Baker, designer Jonah Takagi, the MillerKnoll Archive team, and photographer Eric Petschek, the images were composed to show the dialogues between the objects. The result is a body of documentation that holds the intimacy the exhibition itself was after.
